Word mapping is visual strategy to help students expand word meanings and discover relationships.

• Helps you to expand vocabulary.
• Helps develop elaborated definitions.
• Personalizes meanings of words.

1. Put selected word in center box.
2. Respond to personal connection (how have you heard this word used, etc.) at the end of the question.
3. Verify and record definition from the dictionary or textbook and put in the space provided.
4. List the key terms or symbols from the definition in the space provided.
5. List any unknown words from the definition in the space provided.
6. Use the word in a sentence or draw an illustration that shows you understand the meaning of the word.
7. Underneath the word write examples or synonyms for the word.
8. Now write non-examples or antonyms in the space provided.
